Bird & Bat Box Making

Looking forward to February half-term? If you still need to make plans for what to do, then have a look at some of our suggestions.

Sun 5 February Bird Walk at North Common
1pm / 1 hour
A short stroll along the harbour shoreline at North Common, taking time to look for and identify the harbour birds. Dress warmly and bring binoculars. No dogs please.
Meet: North Common car park, Northney, Hayling Island

Sat 11 February Chichester Marina to Dell Quay Walk
10am / 2 hours
A 4½ mile (7km) figure of eight walk around Chichester Marina, alongside the canal and northwards along the harbour shoreline to Dell Quay, with a stop for a break at the Harbour classroom before returning via the public footpath through the local farming countryside. Bring a flask and snack.  
Meet: Chichester Marina visitors’ car park, PO20 7EJ. After you turn into the marina, the car park is first on the right.

Sun 12 February Bird Watching by Boat
11am / 1.5 hours
Departs from Itchenor. Onboard there will be a guide to help you identify the thousands of birds that visit Chichester Harbour each winter.

Tue 14 February  Little Cockles: Harbour Babies
10am / 1.5 hours
A fun session for families with children up to 5 years old. Today we will be finding out about the harbour babies including the birds and the trees. Bring a snack and outdoor clothes though most of the session will be indoors.

Wed 15 February Textile Weaving For Families
10am / 2 hours
A fun indoor art session creating a woven picture of textiles inspired by the colours of Chichester Harbour. With Jane Latawski, art teacher and Conservancy Education Officer.

Thur 16 February Bird and Bat Boxes
10am / 1.5 hours
As Spring approaches we will be thinking of the birds beginning to nest in the gardens and the bats emerging from their winter hibernation roosts. With the guidance of our Harbour Rangers, make a bat or bird box (or both) to put up in your garden (it is possible to make two per person or family in the time allowed). Bring a hammer and a workmate if you have them, if not use ours. All attendees must hear the safety briefing at 10am.

Sat 18 February Bird Walk at Itchenor
10am / 2 hours
A walk of up to 2 miles, along the harbour shoreline and back at Itchenor, taking time to look for and identify the harbour birds. Dress warmly and bring binoculars. No dogs please.
Meet: Harbour Office, Itchenor PO20 7AW. Roadside parking or use pay and display car park.
